Some Chinatown Portraits is a compilation of portraits captured in Manhattan’s Chinatown started as a way to reconnect with the neighborhood David Zheng has called home for over three decades. In May 2021, Zheng hosted a series of events providing free portraits and prints to Chinatown as a way to uplift its residents after the pandemic lockdown. The idea was to host a safe space to reintroduce people, particularly seniors who were in prolonged isolation, back into the community. His goal to document the diversity of Chinatown resulted in over 250 portraits from the community, an unprecedented feat.
